According to a colleague of mine that makes his living bringing people INTO the US across the US/Mexico border, during the harvesting season it is easier to bring people across. In fact that is when he suggests to those comimg from places like Iraq, Iran, South Korea, Afghanistan, Serbia and the like to make their plans to enter. As to if the border patrol is actually more relaxed at that time, or if they are simply too overworked to be able to catch everyone he doesn't know, he only knows that it is easier at those times.According to your personal knowledge/experience is this true?
Well, since harvest season varies from crop to crop and from north to south and east to west, no. There are immigration visas for migrant farm workers, just as there are visas for students, fiancee's of citizens, research and technology projects, and practically any other ligitimate cause you can think of. What is lax is that the ICE needs permission to check citizenship at work sites and that is hard to get because the higher officials in the organization don't want to make political enemies on either side of the issue. Unfortunately there are too many government employees in positions of authority that subscribe to the policy that if you do nothing, you can do nothing wrong. I live on the US-Mexico border and the only ';active search'; is at the border trying to catch crossers and at the border check points within 50 miles of the border where an agent asks you if you are a citizen of the United States. I have not seen or heard of the ICE checking documents of employees at any job site or farm. Bottom line is we are too lax on national security with regards to illegal aliens and it has nothing to do with the agricultural season.
never heard that before
that would make sense but it would be unethical
This is not true. It is a good question and logically it seems that you would be correct but the truth is that the border patrol is still understaffed and outnumbered in cases of people crossing over the border.
They do not intentionally let anyone over the border but it is obvious in California that the border is consistently breeched.
I do not feel that this is a racist question so the first responder is out of order.
In sum, it is definitely not true by standard but true by understaffing.
