';for in much wisdom is much grief, and increase of knowledge is increase of sorrow';
Do you agree or disagree? and why or why not?Is it true that the more you gain knowledge the more pain you get?
I completely agree. One of my main problems is I over think things, and I've noticed the more i dwell the more depressed I become. I mean compare a baby to 40 year old and you will see the baby is much more happier.Is it true that the more you gain knowledge the more pain you get?
I agree with that quote
id say it all depends on the recipiant and the actual knowledge. as a general rule id say yes it does. as in the opposite of ignorance is bliss. but at the same time knowledge is power and if the right knowledge is used the right way by the right person it can have a massive impact. i personally dont connect my emotions with the knowledge i have so im personally a no on this one.
Disagree
It's a terrible world, and the more you know, the more you wish you didn't.

I do agree but... do you really understand why? It was not without reason when the Philosopher said that there is pain in the Library.
That's true; the more knowledge one achieves the more painful it becomes; but that's the pain of the moth that will get burned when it gets there.
Completely agree. We are a damned being. We know of our own death, and we are stripped of our eternal peace. I wish I were an animal without a concept of my own death. But I'd be a cool animal like an armadillo.
As our knowledge grows, our damnation grows. As they say, ignorance is bliss.
I agree with that quote. I am reading this short story called, ';Flowers for Algernon.,'; in my American literature class. It was a novel, but also made into a short story. The main character name is Charlie Gordon. He is not very smart. His IQ is 68, which is less than Forrest Gimp. He hates being stupid, and wants to be smarter. So there are these two doctors who's doing an experiment on him, and it will triple his IQ score. So far this seem to work, and he's getting smarter than the doctors. Before he was smart, he have many friends in his job; who he thoughts they liked him. However, when he is smart, he finally find out that they were making fun of him after all; because he was stupid. When he was stupid, he thought that he has many friends who loves him, which he was happy. Now he's a genius, and he loses him happiness; but at least he find out the truth. I love that short story, it's awesome.
ignorance is bliss. no news is good news. Those are a couple more manifestations of the same idea. It's definitely true to a degree.
Partly
The more knowledge one has, the more powerful one is
THATS TRUE...
I AGREE 100%
I don't agree. Without knowledge of our own death we have nothing to make us appreciate every day we have. Without suffering we cannot experience true happiness. I try to find out as much about life and the universe and everything in it as I possibly can and yes, it means finding out things that might be initially upsetting - like the sun will burn out eventually, or all the current info about global warming etc - but at the same time you get such a sense of the beauty and fragility of the world. Like how Carl Sagan said when seen from space our earth is a beautiful 'pale blue dot' and all you want to do is protect it and be grateful for your time here. I am an atheist but I don't think this means you have to be pessimistic and existential. I have feelings of profound joy when learning new science, the closest thing I could call a 'religious experience' which I guess makes me a Pantheist, but I prefer not to label it.
Happiness is special because it is rare and hard to achieve. The everyday happiness that an 'ignorant' animal experiences has nothing on what we feel when we get married, or have a child, or travel for the first time. Without the knowledge that our lives will one day end I don't believe that depth of happiness would be possible.
