Or are they the same thing?
If you don`t understand the question then please dont answer it! This is for people that study the Discipline of Philosophy not the masses that believe in the Mystic Guru style or philosophy. What is the difference between True Belief and Knowledge?
belief is a feeling based on experience and circumstance. knowledge is what is without doubt the truth based on fact. What is the difference between True Belief and Knowledge?
Knowledge is something that one accepts as true based on data that they feel is factual. Knowledge changes with time, because what is true for a 2 year old may not be true for a 30 year old. Example: You tell a two year old that only cows make milk, while a 30 year old is capable of knowing that all mammals make milk.
True Belief is something that you believe is true, although there is no ';concrete'; evidence that it is.
Think, ';I think therefore I am.'; This sums up the difference. Because ';I think,'; I know I exist, which is knowledge, but anything else that one believes is only belief, due to the fact that it is based on perception.
True or justified beliefs have some sort of reliability but knowledge is obtained when a justified or true belief has ';facts'; regarding the reliability of that belief.
So in my personal opinion (although there are many ideas on this) to believe and then to prove leads to knowledge.... they are not one in the same but they are intertwined.
I think True Belief means a belief that turns out to be right - kind of like a highly educated guess.
Knowledge is already established; it is an infallible understanding. One could ask is there really such a thing? I would say there isn't unless you bring spiritual revelation into the equation - meaning knowing without perception, which means a more direct experience than filtering through the brain and senses - but that's some serious philosophy there!
Belief is a feeling that someone holds dear.Knowledge is something that is supported with facts and can be proven true.
Knowledge is based on facts that can be proven and are absolute. For example 1+1=2. Even if you take drugs, go to mars or travel back in time 1+1 still equals 2.
Belief come from the Saxon word meaning wishful thinking. It relies on faith and feelings rather than empirical data.
They may or may not be the same thing, some hold true belief to be a blind leap, I hold it to be something quite different. To me the basis of true belief is an honest doubt, therefore belief to be true is answerable to logic and reason. There can be no true belief without knowledge, and knowledge is the substance of all that is true in belief. I acquire and systematise knowledge on the basis of my belief structure, my epistemology. I believe this to be the common method of scientists whether acknowledged or not, and definitely the source of philosophy.
IF I understand what you're asking, then yeah, same thing. Or maybe I will have to work harder on my telepathy!0!
Good luck!
knowledge would be acquiring information while belief would be the state of mind
true belief is something that u believe is true...u are an ardent supporter of it...and u deep skin believe in it...and for u this true belief becomes a part of ur knowledge...
while it might appear as something different to the third person...because he might not believe in that...
knowledge is a factual statement...based on complete facts and datas...one cannot deny it...
belief is true only for its believers who think it's really knowledge... ';i know it is true';.... and everyone else tries to show that it's wrong.
I don't study philosophy, but..... True belief of what? True belief of the knowledge, woudl be like a complete understanding of it. And because of the complete understanding you'll actualy ';feel'; it too. For example, you might KNOW you shouldn't do something (like drinking to obsession or illict sex), so that is knowledge, but you still crave it and sometimes even do it. Now if you have a True Belief that illict sex or drinking to obssesion is wrong/bad, you won't do it, you will probably even lose desire to do it.
True belief can also be a belief that is true :P like maybe one of our thories (like Big Bang) happen to be true, makign it a true belief o_O
But belief tends to be more of a feeling, while kowledge is more of something you have to concously think of.
